Panthers Struggle In Loss At Valparaiso

Crusaders near season-best hitting total in win

Valparaiso, Ind. – Valparaiso University hit a remarkable .343 for the match in a 3-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team Friday from the Athletics-Recreation Center.

The Crusaders (16-3, 4-1 Horizon) were in charge from start to finish in the 25-12, 25-12, 25-19 win.

Milwaukee (5-13, 3-3 Horizon) just couldn't get on track Friday, as they were held to just 31 kills on the night – the second-fewest total so far this season.

"Valparaiso was very tough tonight," Milwaukee head coach Susie Johnson said. "It was a hard match and we didn't respond well. We need to be better tomorrow."

Valparaiso came out flying in the first. The Crusaders hit .333 in the opening frame and limited UWM to hit just .024.

The second was much of the same as Valpo improved their hitting to .440. Milwaukee was able to keep it close early, closing the gap to 14-9 before a big run by VU.

UWM would rally in the third and keep things close. Down 8-4 and 12-7, the Panthers would battle back, getting three kills apiece from Kaisa Mattson, Nicole Latzig and Sammi Herron, but it wasn't enough as Valpo was able to squeak out the set win to take the match.

Milwaukee will look to regroup Saturday with a 4 p.m. match at UIC.
