Tennis Finishes Strong At UIC Invite

Four Panthers finish in top four

CHICAGO – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team wrapped up another fall tournament with more top finishes Saturday, closing out the UIC Tournament in downtown Chicago.

UWM racked up seven wins Friday to set themselves up for top draws on what turned out to be a windy final day of action that forced much of the tournament indoors, abbreviating part of the brackets.

Freshman Laurie Clark continued her solid start to her collegiate career, taking second overall in the "Flames" flight. This marks the third-straight tournament to start the season Clark has played in a championship match.

In the same flight, junior Hayley Marshall did well, claiming a fourth-place finish Saturday.

Alysa Straub battled to a third-place finish in the "Blue" flight. The junior jumped out to an early lead before dropping the second set and rallying in the third, 6-1, 2-6, 10-6.

Aerielle Pendleton also finished third in her flight. Pendleton earned a hard-fought win in the opening set before cruising in the second, 6-4, 6-0, for the straight-set win to claim third in the "Red" flight.

In doubles action, Labina Petrovska and Straub teamed up for Milwaukee's lone doubles win on the day that saw all backdraw action limited due to the weather. Petrovska and Straub powered past Northern Illinois' pairing of Youel/Erasmus, 6-2, for the win.

Milwaukee now has a little over two weeks to prepare for the ITA Regionals Oct. 22-25, hosted this year by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
