Petrovska, Clark Battle To Big Wins At ITA Regional

Each Panther one win away from main draw

Ann Arbor, Mich. – Newcomers Labina Petrovska and Laurie Clark put on an impressive show Thursday, leading the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team with two wins apiece at the ITA Regional on the campus of the University of Michigan.

"Laurie and Labina played very well today," Milwaukee head coach Maddy Soule said. "Their performance demonstrated much mental and physical strength. Both second matches were tough three-setters and they fought through. I am incredibly impressed and proud, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

Petrovska started the day for Milwaukee with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Renu Sharma of Eastern Michigan. Then, in her second match of the day, Petrovska dropped the opening set before marching back for a three-set win, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4.

It was a similar path for Clark on the opening day. The freshman started with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Drew Ellis of Bowling Green before a three-set win moved her into Friday's round of 16. Clark won her second match 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Also competing on the day, junior Alysa Straub battled hard but came up just short to Grace Summers of Eastern Illinois, 6-1, 7-6 (4).

Friday's action starts up right away at 9 a.m. eastern the Varsity Tennis Center.
