Panther Tennis Adds Seven More Wins At UIC

Clark to play for tournament title Saturday

CHICAGO – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team continued its strong start to the fall season with seven more wins Friday at the UIC Invitational.
 
Five players claimed at least one win on the day, including freshman Laurie Clark, who will play for a tournament title Saturday.
 
Clark led the way for Milwaukee yet again. The newcomer from Bolton, U.K. claimed a pair of wins in the "Flames" bracket, starting with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Bowling Green's top player before battling to a 6-2, 7-6, 7-4 win over Northern Illinois' Abigail Dekkinga in the semifinal.
 
Also in the Flames bracket, Hayley Marshall opened her weekend with a win over Valparaiso's Paige Heuer, 6-1, 6-2; before coming up just short in a three-set thriller that went extras against UIC's Melika LeBlanc.
 
Masha Lobanova, Aerielle Pendleton and Alysa Straub all also claimed wins on the opening day of the tournament and will play again Saturday.
 
In doubles action, Lobanova and Dana Shannon teamed up to cruise to a 6-0 win in their pairing to lead the way for Milwaukee on the day.
 
The final day of action starts bright and early at 9:30 a.m. with doubles play. The top flight will be played on the campus of UIC at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts, while the second flight will play just down the road at St. Ignatius.
