ROCHESTER, Mich. (January 22, 2015) –
J.J. Panoske scored a season-high 15 points, one shy of matching his career high, but the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (7-13, 2-4 Horizon) came up on the short end of a 66-53 decision to host Oakland (8-12, 3-2 Horizon) tonight.

Panoske sparked the Panthers early by scoring Milwaukee's first eight points of the game. The host Golden Grizzlies scored nine unanswered points to turn an 8-6 deficit into a 15-8 lead, their largest of the half, with 10:19 remaining.

Milwaukee trailed 26-20 late in the first period before Steve McWhorter and Matt Tiby accounted for all of the Panthers' points in a 9-0 spurt that was capped by a Tiby three-pointer, to reclaim the lead (29-26) for the first time since the 15:55 mark. Dante Williams' layup late in the period cut Milwaukee's lead down to one point at the break.

Kahlil Felder scored five points in a 9-1 Oakland run in the second half that turned a tie game into a 48-40 Golden Grizzlies lead with 9:43 left to play. Free throws from McWhorter and Springs helped Milwaukee slice the deficit to 54-49 with 5:08 to go, but a three-pointer by Ralph Hill ignited a 10-2 Oakland run that pushed its lead to double digits at 64-51.

Oakland, which received 18 points apiece from Corey Petros and Felder, shot 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the field in the second half to overcome the slim halftime deficit and earn the win.

In addition to Panoske's big night, Milwaukee also got 13 points and seven rebounds from Tiby, who ran his streak with 10 or more points to 11 straight games. McWhorter added 11 points and six assists and Springs finished with 10 points.

The Panthers are back in action when they travel to Valparaiso on January 26.
