Des Moines, Iowa - Senior Chelsea Bailey won a pair of singles matches and is one of three Panthers that will play in a final as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team had another strong showing to start the season at the Drake Invitational Saturday.Bailey stormed through her opening match, 6-4, 6-0, before showing her fight in one of the best matches of the day. The senior went back and forth with Creighton's Sam Anderson, going into extras in each set. Tied at 1-1, Bailey finally broke through in the third set and won the thriller, 7-5, 5-7, 10-7, to advance to Sunday's final in the `B' flight consolation group.
"We ended the day on a high note as Chelsea battled and won in a third set breaker," Milwaukee head coach Maddy Soule said. "The women were able to make adjustments from yesterday and play a lot better today. Overall, things are moving forward and I am looking forward to seeing how we finish tomorrow."
Bailey won't be alone in Sunday's action. Sophomore Aerielle Pendleton blew past both of her opponents Saturday in `C' flight consolation singles play, taking down Savanna Hunt of Northern Iowa, 6-2, 6-3, before beating Liz Vermillion, 6-3, 6-1. Pendleton will now go up against Jacqueline Baude of Omaha in Sunday's final.
In doubles play, Christina Colarossi and Bailey won their match against Marissa Baca and Chrissie Hoolahan of Northern Colorado to advance to Sunday's final in the `B' flight of doubles action.
The invitational wraps up Sunday.
