MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team won the doubles point then captured five of six singles outings to claim a 6-1 win over Northern Illinois Saturday at North Shore Elite.

The Panthers (2-5) were solid throughout the lineup in getting back on the winning track. UWM put the match away in singles play by winning three contests in straight sets.

"This was a very satisfying win over a very good team," Milwaukee coach Greg Cromwell said. "I'm really proud of the players. They get all of the credit for the outstanding effort we put together today."

Milwaukee captured the doubles point as Christina Colarossi and Kristin Kurer got things started with an 8-2 win in the third spot. Then, Dana Shannon and Diana Tokar clinched the point with an 8-5 victory in the top spot.

In singles play, Kurer, Shannon and Colarossi quickly recorded victories to wrap up the match. Colarossi won, 6-2, 6-2, in the second spot, while Shannon claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the fourth spot. Kurer added to her all-time record victory total with a 7-6, 6-0 win in the sixth spot.

Chelsea Bailey and Alysa Straub then added three-set wins to finish things off in style for Milwaukee.
