MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team claimed a win in both singles and doubles and had opportunities for more before falling, 6-1, to Iowa State Saturday afternoon at North Shore Elite.

Freshman Alysa Straub captured the singles win for the Panthers, while the doubles tandem of Dana Shannon and Aerielle Pendleton was also victorious.

But, Milwaukee couldn't quite finish out its other opportunities for victory. UWM's top doubles tandem of Christina Colarossi and Diana Tokar fought hard in the top singles slot before falling, 6-3. Then, in singles play, Shannon and Kristin Kurer each pushed their matches to tiebreakers before falling.

Straub, who led the Panthers in singles win during the fall season, captured an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lydia Green in the fifth singles spot.

The doubles win by Shannon and Pendleton came by a 6-1 score over Caroline Anderson and Emma Waites.

UWM heads to Madison tomorrow to take on Wisconsin.
