MILWAUKEE -
Senior Kristin Kurer captured a singles win but the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee fell, 6-1, to Marquette Wednesday night.
Kurer's victory came in the sixth singles spot, where she beat Rocio Diaz, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Panthers also claimed a win in the second doubles position, where Hayley Marshall and Alysa Straub pulled out a hard-fought 8-6 decision.
Plus, UWM came close to extending a number of other singles matches. Diana Tokar, Hayley Marshall and Aerielle Pendleton all fell by 7-5 scores in the second sets of their matches.
"We really played great and put forth a very good effort today," Milwaukee head coach Greg Cromwell said. "We were so close to breaking through at one, two and three singles. Diana and Aerialle were up in the second set in their matches and Hayley played two extremely tight sets. Plus I'm really proud of Kristin for how she is playing this spring and she now has wins over Wisconsin and Marquette. We could have also won at three doubles and won the doubles point. We're getting closer to securing big wins."
UWM returns to action Sunday at Michigan State.
