Three Standouts Set To Join Milwaukee Volleyball

Panthers sign three to join team next season

MILWAUKEE - Three high school standouts have officially signed to join the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team next year, head coach Susie Johnson announced today.

Caitlin Schultz of Port Washington, Wis.; Teagan Taylor of Burlington, Wis.; and Maddie Williams of Normal, Ill. have all signed their papers and will join the Panthers in the fall of 2014.

Schultz comes to Milwaukee from just up the road at Port Washington, Wis. A three-year starter at the varsity level, Schultz recently closed out her high school career with an impressive 270 kills during her senior season. That came on the heels on a strong junior campaign where Schultz registered 289 kills and 65 solo blocks en route to being named the team's MVP.

Also a standout in the classroom, Schultz was named to the honor roll every semester in her high school career and plans to enroll early at Milwaukee to join the team next semester.

"Caitlin is a very difficult player to play against at 6-5," Johnson said. "She has a really good work ethic and is a local player, and it's always exciting to get somebody that's from the area. She will join us already in spring, so we're excited to get to work with her right away."

Hailing from Burlington High School, Taylor comes to UWM with an impressive resume already under her belt. Listed as one of the top volleyball players in the state of Wisconsin, she helped the Demons to a state title in just her sophomore season. She wrapped up her high school career just last week, taking third at the state tournament and earning All-State Tournament team honors.

The lengthy list of accolades continues for Taylor, who was named first-team all-conference and Second-Team All-State as a senior, one year removed being named the Racine County Libero of the Year. The sister of current Panther baseball player Tell Taylor, Teagan also excelled in the classroom with an All-State Academic Team nod her junior year and being selected to the National Honor Society.

"Teagan is from Burlington High School, which was the No. 1 team in the state all year," Johnson said. "She is an incredible competitor. She is very coachable and has a great attitude and great leadership skills. We're excited to add her to the roster."

Williams is the lone out-of-state addition for the Panthers. The 6-foot middle hitter helped Normal West High School (Normal, Ill.) to a 27-7 record as a senior after a 29-4 mark during her junior campaign. Williams earned all-conference honors both of her final years as a Wildcat and also earned the Brick Wall Award as a senior.

The future Panther has also been excellent in the classroom. Williams was named to the National Honors Society and was a straight-A student in high school, being ranked in the top-15 in her class.

"Maddie is a really good athlete who has a very good jump," Johnson said. "She is very quick to get to the middle. She is very competitive and we're looking forward to adding her to the quick offense that we like to run."
