Panthers Claim Three More Titles Saturday

Continue strong fall season



Whitewater, Wis. - Alysa Straub, Chelsea Bailey and Hayley Marshall all won individual titles in a dominating final day for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team Saturday at the Warhawk/Panther Invite.

Milwaukee went 9-3 in the second and final day of action, after a 14-2 mark on Friday.

Straub led the way, winning the top flight with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Volvy Boilevin of Cardinal Stritch in the championship match. In the consoluation side of the top bracket, freshman Mardee Merar won her semifinal match, 8-2, before coming up just short in the final.

In flight two, Bailey powered through for another championship for the Panthers. The senior cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win in her semifinal match before a hard-fought 7-5, 5-6, 10-3 thriller in the final. Christina Colarossi also did well on the day, pounding home a 6-3, 6-3 win in the third-place pairing.

The Panthers continued to flex their muscle with yet another finish atop the leader board. Marshall breezed by both of her opponents, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Samm Pederson of Green Bay in the semifinal before a 6-2, 6-0 victory to claim the third flight championship.

Aerielle Pendleton also brought home some hardware, taking third overall in flight number four with a 8-4 win over Nicole Jones of Western Illinois.

Next up for UWM is the ITA Regional Championships, starting Thursday, Oct. 16.
