MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team captured nine more victories on day two of the Gopher Invitational.

Milwaukee went 5-1 in doubles play and 4-2 in singles contests, with Dana Shannon and Aerielle Pendleton capturing their doubles flight.

Diana Tokar, Hayley Marshall and Alysa Straub claimed straight-sets victories while Chelsea Bailey won her singles match in a walkover.

In doubles action, Shannon and Pendleton won the Gopher Flight, capturing convincing wins over tandems from Gonzaga and North Dakota. Marshall and Straub also captured a pair of wins in the Maroon Flight, including an 8-5 win over a tandem from South Dakota State. Plus, Tokar and Christina Colarossi claimed a 9-7 win over the top doubles team from Iowa State.

"Coming to a tournament like this and having a team like Dana and Aerielle win a flight is an awesome way to start the season," head coach Greg Cromwell said. "Diana has been nursing an abdominal pull but got a nice win at singles today even though the injury has been bothering her a lot this weekend. It was also a really nice win she got with Christina over Iowa State's number-one doubles team. Hayley gutted out a very tough win over a player from Eastern Michigan and Alysa was dominant in her match.

"Our goal is to finish this tournament with as many wins as losses and after today we are at .500, so today was a good day."

Action in the event wraps up Sunday morning.
