MILWAUKEE -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team rolled through singles and doubles play en route to a 7-0 win over Chicago State Saturday at North Shore Elite.
The Panthers (11-8) won all three of the doubles contests by identical 8-1 scores and then won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Doubles action saw Maddy Soule and Christina Colarossi set the tone by winning for the 28th time this season. In singles play the most entertaining and competitive of the matches came in the second spot, where freshman Dana Shannon won the first set in a tiebreaker and then claimed the tiebreaking third-set 16-14 to finish off a perfect Panther day.
Otherwise, Milwaukee was in control throughout the day, with Chelsea Bailey (6-1, 6-1), Kristin Kurer (6-2, 6-0) and Christina Colarossi (6-1, 6-1) particularly dominant.
"A non-conference match like this right in the middle of some key league matches can be tough, but we came out with very good energy and we were smart and aggressive," Milwaukee head coach Sean McInerney said. "We got the doubles point again which is always our first goal in the match and then we played well in singles. Dana played really well against a very good opponent and found a way to win."
Milwaukee wraps up the weekend and its home schedule Sunday with a noon match against Wright State. The Panthers will honor their three seniors prior to the match and will look to remain in the hunt for a top-three finish in the Horizon League.
"It's a big day tomorrow," McInerney said. "Senior day is always nice and then Wright State has been a great conference rival for us. We certainly are anticipating a battle and we know how important the match is in continuing to move up the standings."
