MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team won the doubles point but could not claim any singles victories in dropping a 6-1 decision to Akron Tuesday.

The Panthers (8-6) saw their five-match winning streak snapped in falling to the two-time defending Mid-American Conference champions.

Milwaukee got started on the right foot by winning two of the three doubles contests to take the lead in the match. Maddy Soule and Christina Colarossi claimed an impressive 8-6 win over Akron's top doubles team while Chelsea Bailey and Brittany Skemp won in a tiebreaker in the third spot.

The Panthers could not keep the momentum alive in singles play, though, as Akron won five of the six matches in straight sets. Brittany Skemp did win the first set of her match in the sixth spot before eventually losing the contest in a third-set tiebreaker.

Milwaukee hits the road for a pair of Horizon League matches Friday. The Panthers play UIC at 11 a.m. and then face Valparaiso at 7 p.m.
