DES MOINES, Iowa -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team won the doubles point and captured four singles matches en route to a 5-2 win over North Dakota Friday afternoon.
The Panthers (2-3) received excellent play from the lower portion of the lineup, winning at two and three doubles as well as at three, four, five and six singles.
"I thought today we took a step in the right direction with a solid win," head coach Sean McInerney said. "We have really been emphasizing competing on every point at every spot and today we did an outstanding job with that. We have a long way to go, but at least today we looked like a team that wanted to win up and down the lineup."
Milwaukee got off on the right foot as Kelly Fritz and Dana Shannon claimed a convincing 8-1 win at number-two doubles before Chelsea Bailey and Brittany Skemp pulled out a hard-fought 8-7 win in the third slot.
In single play, Bailey, Shannon and Christina Colarossi all won in straight sets while Kristin Kurer captured a three-set win in the sixth spot.
