The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team opened its weekend trip to Illinois with a 6-1 over the University of Chicago Friday.
The Panthers won all three doubles matches and then captured five of the six singles outings.
Two of UWM's singles win came in three sets, with Kelly Fritz and Christina Colarossi capturing hard-fought wins. Maddy Soule, Dana Shannon and Kristin Kurer won in straight sets.
In doubles play, the Panthers did have to fight hard to pull 8-6 wins in the first and third slots, while Fritz and Shannon combined for an 8-4 win in the second spot.
"I was happy with our win," Milwaukee head coach Sean McInerney said. "Chicago has a very talented lineup and they play very hard. I think we did a good job competing and finding ways to win."
