DES MOINES, Iowa -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team wrapped up a strong weekend in Iowa with a 4-3 win over UTEP Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers (3-4) pulled out the doubles point and then claimed three singles wins to emerge with a victory for the second time in three outings over the weekend.
Maddy Soule and Christina Colarossi led the way for Milwaukee, with the tandem teaming up for a doubles victory before each player won a singles contest. Kristin Kurer also claimed a singles win while Brittany Skemp and Chelsea Bailey had the Panthers' other doubles win.
"We're playing a lot better and with a lot more intensity, and it shows in beating a strong team like UTEP," Milwaukee head coach Sean McInerney said. "Our doubles play is really coming along and to go 7-2 in doubles this weekend is a great step. We're competing a lot better throughout our lineup and we're realizing that if we have any chance at all to win the conference, we'll have to compete for every single point in every single match.
"But we're excited. It was a good weekend against great competition."
UWM is home next Friday to square off with Toledo.
