WHITEWATER, Wis. - Hayley Marshall and Alysa Straub won their doubles flight as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee completed day one action at the Panther/Warhawk Invite.

Aerielle Pendleton and Kristin Kurer also claimed a third-place finish in their double flight.

Much of the singles action was scuttled by bad weather.

"It was a very nice win for Hayley and Alysa. They are really getting better and better every day," Milwaukee head coach Greg Cromwell said. "Christina and Diana are finding their doubles prowess slowly but surely. They're learning how to play together and Diana is easing into serving again as she is still not 100 percent. Plus, we're still alive in all of our singles flights, so I look forward to seeing how we finish."

Marshall and Straub captured three wins en route to the title in the second doubles flight. After wins over tandems from Whitewater and Northern Illinois, the freshman duo beat Leah Dancz and Kali Phillips of Grand Valley State, 8-5, in the final.

Pendleton and Kurer captured wins over tandems from Ferris State and Whitewater before falling, 8-5, to Nike Shipman and Morgan Patterson of Grand Valley State in the title match.

Meanwhile, Christina Colarossi and Diana Tokar went 1-2 in the top singles flight.

Only two singles matches involving UWM players took place Friday, with Pendleton and Kurer each claiming a win. The remainder of singles play will take place Saturday.
