MILWAUKEE -
Alec Brown scored 23 points and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay used an 18-2 run to bust open a tight game in claiming a 74-54 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Friday night at the Klotsche Center.
The Panthers had the game tied at 41-apiece on a pair of Demetrius Harris free throws with 14:05 remaining, but the Phoenix scored the next 11 points and went up 59-43 by the time the run was complete.
Jordan Aaron scored 20 points to lead Milwaukee (5-16, 1-6), which also got 12 points from Demetrius Harris and eight points plus 10 rebounds from J.J. Panoske.
Keifer Sykes added 16 points and Brennan Cougill 12 for Green Bay (11-10, 5-3).
A Green Bay edge inside was costly for Milwaukee. The Phoenix collected 19 offensive rebounds and 24 second-chance points while also owning a 42-28 edge on points in the paint.
Meanwhile, Milwaukee was unable to get its perimeter game going, as the Panthers made just 3-of-20 from three-point range.
The first half was entertaining. Green Bay looked like it might run away in building leads of 18-11 and 25-17. But a layin by Panoske brought Milwaukee within 25-23 and a pair of free throws by Aaron late in the half had the Panthers within 28-27 at the break.
Milwaukee grabbed a 37-36 lead on a Paris Gulley hoop at the 15:30 mark and tied the game at 41-all on the two Harris free throws with just over 14 minutes to play.
But, Sykes quickly answered with a three to start Green Bay's game-deciding run and the Phoenix simply added to its lead in the final minutes.
UWM hits the road for a pair of games next week, playing at Loyola Wednesday and Valparaiso Friday.
