INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team bounced back from dropping the doubles point to win all six singles contests in claiming a 6-1 win at Butler Saturday.
The win moved the Panthers (11-7, 4-1 Horizon) into sole possession of third place in the Horizon League, a spot that would mark their highest finish in school history.
Plus, the victory was UWM's first-ever win over the Bulldogs.
"Obviously this was a big win for our team," UWM head coach Sean McInerney said. "Butler is a good team and for us to have gone onto their home courts to sweep all six singles matches is a great sign of how far we have come as a program."
As has been the case through much of the season, the top of UWM's lineup set the tone. Junior Maddy Soule captured her 13th win of the spring while freshmen Christina Colarossi and Chelsea Bailey each picked up their 11th victories.
"We really played hard and were positive throughout today, which are two things we have been working on," McInerney said. "I am very proud of our effort. Now we have to go play a very good Wright State team and we will need the same effort to get another win."
The match Sunday at Wright State begins at 10 a.m. EDT/9 a.m. CDT.
