CHICAGO -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team opened its weekend in Chicago with a 6-1 victory over Chicago State.
The Panthers claimed the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches in claiming victory for the second time in three spring outings.
Maddy Soule and Christina Colarossi captured an 8-2 victory in the top doubles slot, with the Panthers then getting the point thanks to an 8-0 win by Kelly Fritz and Kristin Kurer in the third slot.
In singles play, Soule won in straight-sets up top while freshman Chelsea Bailey earned a hard-fought three-set win in the number-two spot. Fritz, Kurer and Brittany Skemp also won in straight-sets.
"Overall this was the best performance our team has had since I started here at UWM," head coach Sean McInerney said. "I am very proud of our effort and feel we beat a very good team convincingly. Our number-one doubles play was outstanding and very aggressive in beating a tough CSU team. Chelsea was also very impressive, battling back to get her best win of the year."
The Panthers square off with Bradley in Chicago on Saturday.
