MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team won every singles and doubles match on its way to a 7-0 win over Western Illinois Friday night at LeClub.

The Panthers controlled each match in the spring opener for both teams.

"It was nice to get our spring season off on a winning note," UWM head coach Sean McInerney said. "We have been working really hard and it was nice to be able to play against someone besides our teammates. I thought our concentration was good and we took care of business."

UWM did not drop a game in any of the matches. Freshmen Chelsea Bailey (#2 singles) and Christina Colarossi (#3 singles) followed junior all-league performer Maddy Soule in the lineup, with Kelly Fritz (#4), Beth Ganser (#5) and Brittany Skemp (#6) rounding out the Milwaukee rotation. Just as they were in the fall, Soule and Colarossi were teamed as UWM's top doubles tandem, while Skemp and Fritz played in the second slot with Ganser and Megan Gow slotted third.

The Panthers face a much more difficult test Sunday, making the trip to Madison for a matchup with Wisconsin.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of playing a very talented Wisconsin team on Sunday," McInerney said. "I think it will give our players a great opportunity and test."
