SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -
Maddy Soule claimed wins in both singles and doubles play but it was not enough as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Detroit Saturday night.
Soule teamed with Beth Ganser for an 8-6 win at number-three doubles, but Milwaukee was unable to pull out a win in either of the other two doubles contests.
Then, in singles play, Soule won for a school-record 24th time, knocking off Amanda Cornwell, 6-1, 6-2. Kristin Kurer also captured her 20th win of the season, beating Melanie Capuano, 6-3, 6-3. But, Sammi Schoen and Brittany Skemp each fell in three-set battles while Detroit claimed sweeps in the second and fourth spots to secure the win.
The match was the regular season finale for the Panthers (11-9, 3-5 Horizon), who will now await the results of additional league matches next weekend to see whether or not they will claim one of the top six spots in the league and a berth in the league championships.
