MILWAUKEE - Ja'Rob McCallum scored 17 points and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee ended the game on a 27-10 run in claiming a 67-59 win over UW-Parkside Saturday night in an exhibition men's basketball game at the Klotsche Center.

Milwaukee was shorthanded in the contest, missing both preseason first-team all-league performer Kaylon Williams (knee) and second-team honoree Tony Meier (calf).

But a number of people came through when it counted. Milwaukee found itself down, 49-40, midway through the second half before turning the game around. Evan Richard and Paris Gulley combined for 11 points during the decisive run, which was sparked by three-pointers from Kyle Kelm and McCallum.

Kelm added 12 points for UWM, which also got eight apiece from Richard and Gulley.

Leneal Harris had 14 points while Conrad Krutwig and Jeremy Saffold added 12 apiece for Parkside.

"When you are missing two of your veteran players to start the season there is always a little bit of uncertainty as to what's going to happen," UWM head coach Rob Jeter said. "We had a group out there in the second half for a stretch that really defended well. You allow guys to step up but you still want to have a team that is getting itself ready to start the season."

Milwaukee started fast before foul trouble slowed the Panthers down. UWM led 11-3 in the first three minutes, with McCallum scoring six points and Kelm five. From there, though, Parkside fought back, eventually taking a 19-17 lead on a Krutwig jumper. The Ranger lead hit seven before the Panthers closed to within three at the break.

Parkside then led 49-40 with just over 12 minutes left before Milwaukee came alive. A three-pointer by McCallum sparked a 12-0 run, which was capped by four-straight points from Richard. The lead grew to 59-53 after five-straight points from Gulley and a Richard jumper with under two minutes remaining effectively sealed things.

The Panthers will open up the regular season next Saturday, welcoming Southwest Minnesota State to the U.S. Cellular Arena for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
