The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team opened play Friday in the ITA Second Chance Regional.
Kristin Kurer captured a win in the Black Singles Draw to highlight the day for the Panthers.
Kurer won the first set from Mary Malkin of Northern Illinois, 6-3, before Malkin defaulted. Kurer will now face Katarina Lingl of Michigan State Saturday afternoon.
Brittany Skemp also nearly pulled out a victory in the Red Singles Draw, falling in a tiebreaking third set against Miloslava Shustova of Western Michigan.
Action in the event continues Saturday and Sunday.
