DAYTON, Ohio -
Elizabeth Egerer had 14 kills and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee hit .407 as a team in claiming a 25-17, 25-8, 25-14 win over Wright State Friday night at McLin Gymnasium.
The win is the 11th-straight for the Panthers (18-4, 11-0 Horizon), who have also won 20-straight regular season league matches dating back to last season.
Kerri Schuh added 10 kills for Milwaukee, which was never threatened in the match and committed just five hitting errors.
The Panthers also had 10 blocks in limiting Wright State (3-21, 2-9) to a .032 hitting clip. UWM held the Raiders to a negative hitting percentage in the second and third sets.
Ashley Langjahr led Wright State with nine kills.
"We started off just a little shaky in the beginning as they came out strong like most teams do against us," UWM head coach Susie Johnson said. "Then we collected ourselves and the rest of the match was seamless and we had a lot of control with the digs and the passing. Our attack was excellent and our setter (Kayla Price) did a great job."
Milwaukee pulled away to win the first set. The Panthers took the lead for good at 14-13 on a Rachel Neuberger kill and quickly extended that lead to 19-13 on a block by Neuberger and Hannah Blanchard. The lead was 21-15 after an Egerer kill and grew to 24-16 following another Egerer kill. A kill by Schuh then finished things off.
UWM dominated the second set. The Panthers scored 15 of the first 17 points of the frame, with a nine-point run capping the burst. The lead hit 19-5 after a Taylor Golabowski ace and 21-5 following a kill by Egerer. UWM then finished things off on a kill by Schuh and a block from Schuh and Mackenzie Millis.
Milwaukee surged to win the third set and the match. Wright State actually led 10-8 before UWM took the lead at 11-10 on a Raider error. The lead hit 13-10 on a Panther triple block and was 15-12 on a kill by Millis. The advantage grew to 19-12 on a block by Schuh and Neuberger and UWM then closed out the match on a run of five points, the final one coming thanks to an ace by Golabowski.
The Panthers continue their weekend road trip with a Saturday contest at Butler. The match begins at 4 p.m. EDT/3 p.m. CDT.
