Soule Wins Platinum Consolation Title As Panthers Wrap Up Northern Iowa Invitational

WATERLOO, Iowa - Maddy Soule won the Platinum Consolation Bracket title as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee wrapped up play in the Northern Iowa Invitational Sunday.

Soule claimed on pair of matches on the event's final day to capture the crown. First, she beat Jenna Langhorst of Iowa State, 6-4, 6-2, before dominating Veronika Makashov of South Dakota, 6-1, 6-0.

Also on Sunday, Kristin Kurer claimed a win in the Bronze Consolation Bracket, beating Bethany Gooden of South Dakota State, 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, Kelly Fritz had to bow out of a Silver Consolation Bracket match with Kelly Phillips of Northern Illinois after dropping the first set, 7-6. And, Beth Ganser dropped a straight-set decision to Earlynn Lauer of Drake in the Bronze Consolation Bracket.

Sunday's results added to a solid weekend of performances for the Panthers, who were tested by a field that included Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota and Missouri.

Soule wound up leading the way for the weekend with three singles wins, while Kurer collected a pair of wins. Kelly Fritz, Megan Gow and Beth Ganser also had singles victories.

In doubles play, Soule and Fritz teamed up for a 1-1 mark, while Gow and Sammi Schoen also went 1-1. The consolation portion of the doubles draw was not completed once inclement weather moved the event indoors on Saturday.
