Panthers Drop 4-3 Decision To Green Bay

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Green Bay Friday night at the Paley Tennis Center.

The Panthers (5-13, 2-5 Horizon) won the doubles point and captured a pair of early singles wins but could not hang on for the victory.

Green Bay (6-12, 3-4) pulled out wins at number-one and number-four singles to get back in the contest before claiming victories in the fifth and sixth slots to complete its comeback.

All three doubles matches went to tiebreakers, with Ashley Schoneman and Megan Gow claiming a 9-8 (6) win in the second spot while Brittany Skemp and Sammi Schoen pulled out a 9-8 (11) victory in the third spot.

In singles play, Kelly Drvaric captured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jennifer Bradfield in the second spot while Schoen rolled to a 6-4, 6-3 win at #3 singles.

Green Bay's Emily Lawent had to fight from behind to knock off Kari Kastenholz in the top spot, with Kastenholz winning the first set, 6-4, before Lawent captured the next two, 6-1 and 6-3. The other three singles victories by the Phoenix came in straight sets.

UWM will wrap up the regular season with a Sunday morning home match against Detroit.
