MADISON, Wis. - Jon Leuer scored 20 points to lead three players in double figures as the University of Wisconsin claimed a 61-40 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Wednesday night at the Kohl Center.

Ja'Rob McCallum had 12 points and Tony Meier added 10 for the Panthers (4-6), who shot just 30.8 percent from the field.

After hitting its first two shots, Milwaukee never got on track on offense. The Panthers turned the ball over 15 times and made just 12 of their 39 shots from the field.

UWM did have success defensively, limiting Wisconsin to just 27 second-half points while forcing the Badgers (7-2) into 13 turnovers.

Jordan Taylor added 14 points and six assists for Wisconsin, which also collected 11 offensive rebounds in claiming a 37-19 overall edge on the boards.

"What we were trying to do was get back on track shooting the basketball and that's the wrong team to play to do that," UWM head coach Rob Jeter said. "We did a nice job defensively, but it's what they do to all of the teams that come in here. Their length and their discipline defensively really makes it tough for teams and made it tough for us."

After Milwaukee hit those first two shots - a jumper by McCallum and a three-pointer from Meier - the Panthers struggled on offense the rest of the way in the first 20 minutes. The Badgers scored 13 in a row to build an 18-6 advantage as Milwaukee went more than eight minutes without a field goal.

The Panthers did get to within eight at 18-10 and were still within nine at 22-13, but Wisconsin steadily pulled away from there. The Badgers led 34-15 at the half, limiting the Panthers to just six field goals and one free throw.

Milwaukee did find more success in getting into the paint and to the line in the second 20 minutes, converting on 11-of-16 from the charity stripe while adding six field goals and a pair of threes.

UWM continues its stretch of three-straight games on the road with a Saturday night contest at South Dakota State. That game tips off at 7 p.m.
