MILWAUKEE -
Anthony Hill scored 19 points to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to an 84-59 win over Carroll University in an exhibition game Saturday night at the Klotsche Center.
The Panthers outscored the Pioneers, 52-27, in the second 20 minutes, limiting Carroll to just 32.8 percent shooting for the game.
Kaylon Williams added 11 points, seven assists, seven rebounds and five steals as Milwaukee made better than 50 percent of its shots from the field. UWM also shot 50 free throws in the game, but made just 28 of the tries.
Carroll kept things interesting through the first 20 minutes by making six 3-pointers while Milwaukee converted on just nine of its 20 chances from the foul line. But, UWM used a 25-7 run out of the gates in the second half to take complete control.
Paul Grosshuesch scored 13 points to lead Carroll.
A jumper by Grossheusch put Carroll up 16-15 with 9:28 remaining, but Milwaukee scored the next six to lead 21-16. Carroll then reclaimed the advantage and went up 29-26 on a driving layin by Alec Molter with 1:55 left. Two late Kyle Kelm baskets sandwiched around a three-pointer by Mitch Tordoff sent the teams into the locker room knotted up at 32.
UWM scored the first seven points of the second half and never gave the lead back. A pair of free throws from Allen made it 48-36 and a follow-up basket by Allen pushed the edge to 56-39. The lead grew to 20 when Williams stole the ball and converted on a driving layup, and went all the way out to 78-52 on a Ja'Rob McCallum three with 3:50 remaining.
All 15 players that dressed for Milwaukee played in the game, with no player on the floor for more than 24 minutes. Ten players played at least minutes, and 11 players broke into the scoring column.
UWM will now turn its attention toward a very busy start to the regular season. The Panthers play in the Athletes In Action Classic in Portland, Ore., next Friday-Sunday. Milwaukee opens the event against the hosts from the University of Portland Friday afternoon.
