Box Score Postgame Extra

MILWAUKEE - Jared Stohl scored 15 points to lead four players in double figures as Portland claimed an 80-60 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the first game of the Athletes In Action Classic at the Chiles Center.

The Pilots, who have played in the post-season the last two years, scored the first 11 points of the game and then withstood a second-half charge from the Panthers.

Tone Boyle scored 13 points and Anthony Hill added 11 for Milwaukee, which actually trailed by as many as 22 points late in the first half before getting as close as nine in the second half.

But, the Pilots were far too potent on offense on this day. Portland made 10 three-pointers and shot better than 48 percent from the field for the game. Meanwhile, Milwaukee shot just 34.4 percent from the floor and converted on just 6-of-22 from beyond the arc.

Portland scored the first 11 points of the game before a basket by Hill got the Panthers on the board seven minutes in. The early Pilot advantage hot 19-2 after a three by Stohl and a basket by Kramer Knutson.

Milwaukee was able to pull within 24-12 on a basket by Kaylon Williams but Portland then used an 11-2 run to claim a 35-14 advantage. The lead grew to 40-18 with a Stohl three at the two-minute mark before Milwaukee tried to crawl back in it late in the half. The Panthers wound up scoring the final eight points, with a three from Lonnie Boga making it 40-26 at the half.

The run continued in the second half, with a basket by Hill bringing Milwaukee within 11 at 43-32 before a tough hoop from Williams made it 45-36 with 16:45 remaining.

The Panthers were still within nine at 52-43 after Boga scored, but Portland scored the next seven points to reestablish control of the game.

Milwaukee plays game two of the Athletes In Classic Saturday against Florida Atlantic. That contest starts at 6:30 p.m. CST/4:30 p.m. PST.
