MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Oct. 22, 2010) - Sarah Hagen scored a goal in each half to break the school record for career points and lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Detroit on Senior Day Friday evening at Engelmann Field.

With the win, the Panthers (10-5-2, 6-1 Horizon) claim at least a share of their 11th-straight Horizon League regular season championship. They will claim the title outright and earn the No. 1 seed for the upcoming league tournament with at least a tie Sunday at Wright State.

"I was pleased the result, getting a 3-nil win to wrap things up on Senior Day," Milwaukee head coach Michael Moynihan said. "It was a fitting tribute to the seniors and a good way to wrap up the home regular season. We clinched the at least a share of the regular season title and that is another positive for us. Now we're looking to go down to Wright State and, hopefully, secure home field advantage (in the league tournament."

Hagen got the scoring started in the 10th minute with her 14th goal of the season to tie Lisa Krzykowski's school record of 140 career points. Helen Steinhauser started the play, collecting the first of her two assists on the night with a high ball played into the penalty area. Nicole Hirsch fended off her defender to win the ball and slide a pass to Hagen near the far post, where she neatly tucked it into the net. The score proved to be the game-winner, Hagen's school record-tying sixth of the season and school record 17th of her career.

She broke Krzykowski's record when she added an insurance goal to make it 3-0 in the 55th minute, heading in a Nicole Sperl corner kick at the far post. Hagen then exited the game in the 57th minute with her two goals and eight shots. She took the first seven shots of the game for UWM and finished with six on goal.

Sara Stern also scored for Milwaukee, picking up her second goal of the season in the 43rd minute to stake the Panthers to a 2-0 halftime lead. Steinhauser played a terrific diagonal ball past the Titan defense that Stern was able to run on to. She calmly took one touch before beating the keeper from six yards out.

UWM outshot Detroit 14-3 on the night and had a commanding 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. The game was played a higher pace than the Panthers had become accustomed to in recent weeks, but they shook off some early hiccups and five offside calls to take control of the game.

The Titans nearly took a surprising lead in the first minute of the game when Abby McCollum took advantage of a Milwaukee defensive miscue to put a shot on an open net just 20 seconds after the opening kick. Luckily for the Panthers, Mary Wandolowski was able to make a sliding tackle save at the end line.

In addition to the one team save, two UWM keepers were called on to make one save to preserve the team's sixth shutout of the season. Leslie Deebach, one of six seniors honored before the game, got the start and played the first 67-plus minutes, making the save and picking up the win. Jamie Forbes played the final 22:47 to complete the clean sheet.

Nora Abolins made three saves over the first 80:27 for the Titans. Emily Oberheim was not called on to make a save while playing the final 9:33.

Milwaukee is assured of a top-two seed in the league tournament and a bye into the semifinals. The only scenario that sees the team fall to second is if it loses to WSU and Butler defeats Cleveland State Sunday in Indianapolis. The Panthers and Raiders kick off at noon central time.
