The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Mastodon Invitational Saturday with three second-place finishes and a pair of consolation-bracket titles.
Megan Gow was a part of both of the title efforts. In the fourth singles flight, she knocked off Lee Matthews of IUPUI, 6-4, 6-2, to claim the consolation crown. She also teamed with Beth Ganser to knock off a tandem from Green Bay, 8-2, in capturing the third doubles consolation title.
Of the three Panthers playing for overall tournament titles Saturday, freshman Kristin Kurer came closest to walking away with a trophy. She won the first set from Yoba Kobayashi of IPFW, 6-4, before dropping the next two, 6-3 and 10-4. In the top singles flight, Maddy Soule fell to Kate Chybowski of Evansville, 6-2, 7-5. And, in the third singles flight, Raquel Vescovi of IPFW knocked off Sammi Schoen, 7-6(2), 6-2.
Also on Saturday, Kelly Fritz dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Ingrid Ballus of IPFW in the consolation final of the second singles flight.
Weather did force the tournament indoors Saturday, eliminating the third-place matches in all singles and doubles brackets.
For the weekend, the Panthers collected 10 singles wins and four doubles victories.
