MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team claimed a convincing 7-0 win over Wright State Friday night at the Paley Tennis Center.

The Panthers (7-6, 2-0 Horizon) have won three in a row overall and are 2-0 in league play for the first time since the 1996-97 season.

Milwaukee won two of three doubles contests to claim the first point of the match before sweeping through all six singles matches.

The biggest tests in singles play for the Panthers came in the #1 and #3 slots. Kelly Drvaric pulled out a 6-2, 7-6 win over Karina Presti in the top position while Ashley Schoneman claimed a 7-6, 6-2 win over Kenisha Webb in the third position.

Otherwise, the Panthers were dominant in singles action. Kari Kastenholz won, 6-1, 6-3, at #2 singles, while Sammi Schoen captured a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fourth slot. Then, Megan Gow won, 6-1, 6-1, at #5 singles while Jenna Felsher wrapped up singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles.

In doubles action, Schoen joined Kastenholz in the first slot for the first time this season, but the tandem fell, 8-6. Schoneman and Gow captured an 8-2 win at #2 and Karlee Miller joined Felsher for an 8-3 win at #3.

"We put together a nice effort across the board in singles, and it is nice to be 2-0 in league play." UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "I mixed things up in doubles, trying to find the right combinations. I'll keep doing that until we find the right combination because for us to continue to win in league play, we have to win the doubles point."

UWM will get its biggest test of the league season Sunday, as the Panthers head to Chicago to face 11-time defending league champion UIC.

"I want to push UIC on Sunday," McCaskill said. "We need to prove to ourselves we can be competitive with the teams at the top of the league."
