Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Ruth Boscaljon had 10 kills and Youngstown State forced the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee into 27 hitting errors in claiming a 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 win Friday night at the Klotsche Center.

The victory by the Penguins (5-10, 3-2 Horizon) over the Panthers (5-10, 2-2) snapped an 18-match winning streak by Milwaukee in the series. UWM also saw its 37-match home regular season league winning streak snapped.

Jena Berg led Milwaukee with 14 kills, but no other Panther player had more than five kills.

Kaitlin O'Hara added nine kills for YSU, which has won three-straight league matches.

"Youngstown State played very well and deserved to win," UWM head coach Susie Johnson said. "I was proud of how Jena kept trying to work through some things and keep swinging and it paid off for her. But, overall, we just didn't play well."

Youngstown State used late runs to pull away in each set.

The Penguins broke a 13-all tie with a 7-3 burst in the first set. The Panthers did pull back to within 20-17 but would get no closer as YSU scored the final five points of the set.

In the second set, YSU built an early 12-8 lead but Milwaukee was able to close within two points on numerous occasions. UWM was still within 21-18 after a kill by Melissa Jansen but the Penguins finished the set with four-straight points.

YSU led just 16-14 midway through the third set but again pulled away. The Penguins' lead hit 19-14 on a block and eventually grew to 23-15. A kill by O'Hara and a solo block by Allison Heinz then finished things off.

UWM has a busy week ahead, playing four league road matches. The rigorous stretch starts Tuesday at Butler.
