MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Oct. 11, 2009) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team scored five first-half goals, including two each by sophomores Sarah Hagen and Keara Thompson, in running past Youngstown State, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at Engelmann Field.

The Panthers (7-5-3, 5-0 Horizon) won for the fifth-straight game and reach five goals in a game for the third-straight time. The Penguins (3-8-2, 0-4 Horizon), meanwhile, remained winless in league play this season.

"You have to be happy to win at home," UWM head coach Michael Moynihan said. "Getting five goals in the first half was good, but I was a little disappointed at halftime because I thought we still squandered a lot (of chances). That's probably a good sign of where we're at to be able to come away with such a convincing victory without player our best game."

For the second-straight game, sophomore Laurel Ragalie got the scoring started, tallying her fourth goal of the season in just the sixth minute. Thompson then scored the game-winner in the 22nd minute to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead.

After Lauren Brennen got Youngstown State on the board to cut UWM's lead to 2-1, Hagen headed home her first goal of the game in the 29th minute. Thompson then struck again the 42nd minute, before Hagen added her second score, as well, just 46 seconds later.

In the opening half, Milwaukee dominated the stat sheet to the tune of a 5-1 lead, with a 23-2 shot advantage and 3-0 edge in corker kicks. The YSU defense combined for eight saves, as 13 Panthers shots were on goal.

After halftime, UWM cooled off a bit, but that didn't stop senior Louise Vraney from adding her first goal of the season in the 70th minute. By the end of the game, the Panthers had 37 shots, including 23 on goal. Mariah Snyder made 15 saves for the Penguins and the YSU defense cleared two more shots off the line.

Junior Leslie Deebach made her second start of the season in goal, but did not make a save.

Hagen scored a goal in her seventh-straight game, tying a school record she set, and later tied, last season. She has 14 goals in that time, including four multi-goal games and three straight games with two or more scores. Senior Kate Megna also added to her school-record career assist total, tallying two in the opening frame to give her 11 on the year and 31 in her career.

The Panthers hit the road next weekend, playing at Detroit Friday, before returning home Sunday to host Wright State in the final regular season home game of 2009.
