FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team pulled out a pair of 4-3 victories this weekend.

UWM downed both IPFW and Dayton by identical scores at the Pine Ridge Racquet Club in Ft. Wayne.

In the contest with IPFW, the key contest came at #3 doubles. Ashley Schoneman and Sammi Schoen fought off match point in the tiebreaker before pulling out the victory, giving UWM the doubles point.

The Panthers then split the six singles matches against the Mastadons. Kari Kastenholz and Schoen each won three-set contests while Traci Litscher captured a straight-sets win at #6 singles.

Against Dayton, UWM dropped the doubles point and matches at #1 and #2 singles before rallying. Kelly Drvaric had a three-set win at #1 singles, Schoen captured a three-set win at #4 singles and Litscher pulled out a three-set win at #5 singles.

"The bottom line is both matches were epic battles," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "We played over eight hours of tennis and pulled out two big wins. Winning at #3 doubles in a tiebreaker against IPFW was huge because the singles matches were so even. Then, against Dayton, I was afraid of a letdown both physically and mentally but we were able to overcome that slow start to win.

"We really were done 3-0 against Dayton after losing the doubles points and the singles matches at 2 and 3, but we rallied in the rest of the singles matches and did a great job pulling out those three-set victories."

UWM will return home next weekend, hosting Northern Iowa Friday and Butler Saturday. The Panthers also travel across town to face Marquette Sunday.
