A memorial service for Bob Jeter, the father of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball coach Rob Jeter, will be held Monday in Chicago.
Robert DeLafayette Jeter, Jr., 71, died last Thursday (Nov. 20) of an apparent heart attack while at his home in Chicago. He was recuperating from prostate cancer surgery.
Bob Jeter was well-known as a standout for the Green Bay Packers, playing on a pair of Super Bowl champions before earning a spot in the Packers Hall of Fame. He also played in the Canadian Football League and for the Chicago Bears after a stellar collegiate career at Iowa.
Services will be held on Mon. Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. at Martin Temple AMEZ Church at 6930 Cottage Grove in Chicago.
Bob was preceded in death by a brother Rudolph Jeter; his parents, Robert Jeter, Sr. and Mary Vivian Booker Jeter; and a sister, Vivian Louise Jeter Nix. Left to cherish his precious memory are his wife, Gwendolyn R. Jeter; three sons, Carlton Wesley Jeter (Tanya); Robert D. Jeter, III (Deanna); Dantrell Jeter; three daughters, Sheila Nyberg; Jasmine Jeter, Maria Jeter; seven grandchildren, Imani Jeter, Cayci Jeter, Carter Jeter, Robert D. Jeter, IV, Jonathan Jeter, Kevin Higdon, and Tasha Higdon; three great grandchildren, Denzel Higdon, Cierra Higdon, and Cedric Higdon; two brothers, Leon Jeter and Anthony Jeter; two sisters, Carol Hudson and Eunice Sykes (Don), two brothers-in law, John Martin (Sarah), Carlton Martin (Diane), and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Bob was also a dad to 20 foster children.
Condolences can be sent to the church, Attention: Rev. Jimmy Allen Thomas, though the church asks that any flowers be scheduled for delivery on Monday as they have limited space for storage.
