BOSTON, Mass. (Sept. 14, 2007) - No. 8 Boston College scored late in the first half and outshot the Panthers, 20-3, in handing the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team a 1-0 loss Friday night in Boston.

BC remains undefeated at 5-0, while Milwaukee fell to 3-2.

"They were the best team we've run into this season so far," head coach Michael Moynihan said. "They had a lot of speed, they were strong, they were a lot more aggressive than us. We should have done better with the opportunities that we had."

Kia McNeill collected a loose ball at the top of the box to start the scoring play in the 29th minute. She dribbled around a defender to the outside and slotted a ball to Kelly Henderson, who finished for the eventual game-winner.

The Panthers were a lot more dangerous than the stat sheet indicated, creating a handful of dangerous opportunities, some of which did not yield shots. The final counts were 20 shots and three corner kicks for the Eagles and three shots and four corners for UWM.

"The shots aren't always reflective of where the ball is on the field," Moynihan said. "There were times, in the second half in particularly, where we started to control the midfield. We were in their end of the field for some sustained time. I thought we had some flicks that were dangerous. It made for a lot of close moments that don't register as shots. You get a break on one of those and it's a different game."

In the first minute, senior Pam Shipway stole a ball just outside the attacking zone and sent a perfect through ball to sophomore Erin Kreuser. Kreuser split a pair of defenders to get to the ball and sent her second touch on net from five yards out. BC keeper Sarah Buonomo was there to make the save.

Late in the half, the Panthers pushed forward for the equalizer, but, despite a number of chances, did not get a shot off. Over the last 75 seconds of the frame, Milwaukee forced a pair of corner kicks, but after the second was cleared, it was freshman Heather Roadhouse that sent a cleared ball back into the box. Kreuser once again got past the defense, but Buonomo came off her line to snuff out the play with just seconds remaining before intermission.

Boston College used its size and speed to control much of the play, but in the second half, UWM showed more life, generated extended attacks in the offensive third.

Junior Erin Kane came up big for Milwaukee, in keeping it a one-goal game. She made four saves on the night, including a pair of spectacular saves late in the second half. Buonomo, meanwhile, was called on to make just one save for her fourth shutout of the season.

"I thought Kane had an awesome performance," Moynihan said. "I thought she had three really big saves that kept us in the game. Whenever you have that, you have a chance."

The Panthers stay in Boston through the weekend, taking on Harvard Sunday at 11 a.m. central time.
