KOHLER, Wis. -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee swept all six singles matches and all three doubles contests en route to a convincing 7-0 win over South Dakota State Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (9-7) were never challenged in the match with the Jackrabbits, claiming their first 7-0 win since last season. The nine overall wins are also the most by a Milwaukee team since 1996-97, when the Panthers won 11 contests.
"It was certainly a match we felt like we should win, so it was good to see us win it convincingly," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "It's a very good sign to see us control a match like we did, and it is good to get back on the winning track."
Milwaukee rolled through doubles play, with all three duos claming easy wins. In fact, Kelly Drvaric and Ashley Schoneman claimed an 8-0 win at #2 doubles and Traci Litscher and Lauren Fenley captured an 8-1 win in the #3 slot.
In singles play, UWM was never threatened. Drvaric won, 6-1, 6-1, at #1 singles and only two matches saw a set with a SDSU player winning more than two games. Kari Kastenholz won 6-0, 6-1 at #2 singles, while Fenley wrapped up the dominance with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #6 singles.
Plus, Ali O'Neal's win at #3 singles was her 16th of the season, tying her for the most in a single season in UWM history.
UWM returns to action next week with a pair of matches, playing at IPFW Thursday before squaring off with league foe Detroit on Friday.
