CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -
Austin Peay jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and never trailed, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team by a final score of 14-0 on Sunday. The Governors (6-6) won their third-straight overall and extended the Panthers (0-9) season-opening losing streak in the process.
The shutout was the first blanking of the UWM offense in 46 games, dating back to a 2-0 loss at Wright State April 2 of last season.
Six of the eight Milwaukee pitchers used in the game combined to give up nine walks and also hit two batters, leading to APSU scoring those 14 runs on 11 hits.
Junior Dan Luzcak (0-3) started, lasting 1.1 innings after giving up three runs on three hits in the first, including Will Hogue's two-run home run.
After tacking on three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, the Governors plated five unearned runs in the seventh, as all three Panther errors in the game happened in the frame.
The Panthers had a season-low four hits in the game, but were led by senior Kyle Silver's 2-for-3 effort. Senior Rob Brockel and freshman Wes Munson also had singles for UWM, with Munson's being the first hit of his college career.
Milwaukee will look to get on track when it travels to Hawaii March 16-18, taking on the Rainbow Warriors in four games over the weekend.
