The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee dropped a pair of matches in being eliminated from the Horizon League Women's Tennis Championships Saturday.
The Panthers, the eighth seed in the event, fell to UIC in their first match before losing to Cleveland State in the consolation bracket.
UWM was unable to scratch out a win in either match.
Against top-seeded UIC, UWM didn't really threaten. Elizabeth Angel, who tied a school record with 16 singles wins this season, was the most competitive. She fell 6-2, 6-3 at #5 singles. Two other singles matches were stopped short of completion once UIC had clinched the team victory.
In the consolation-bracket match with Cleveland State, Samantha Drews fell 6-2, 6-3 at #6 singles and Margie Van Lieshout dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at #1 singles. Three other singles matches were stopped once CSU clinched the team win.
