GLENDALE, Wis. -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Detroit Friday in its final regular season match of the season.
The Panthers (4-13) did win the doubles point and were competitive in singles but could not break through for their first league win of the year.
In doubles action, Milwaukee won two of the three matches to claim the point. Margie Van Lieshout and Traci Litscher teamed up for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles while Elizabeth Angel and Samantha Drews pulled out an 8-6 win at #3 doubles.
In singles play, Litscher continued her strong play with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Ashley Cummins at #3 singles.
"Traci was certainly the star of the day in winning both of her matches," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "The team came out hot and played very well in doubles, and then was competitive in singles play. I thought it was a strong effort."
UWM now heads to Indianapolis next weekend for the Horizon League Women's Tennis Championships. The full pairings for the event will be announced on Monday.
