MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Oct. 15, 2006) - Sophomore Sarah Teegarden scored her third game-winning goal of the season in the 94th minute to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Butler in overtime Sunday afternoon at Engelmann Field.

The Panthers (13-2-1, 6-0 Horizon) beat the Bulldogs (4-9-2, 1-4-1 Horizon) for the 12th-straight time and clinched at least a share of their seventh-straight Horizon League regular season championship.

"We've clinched a share of the title, but what we want is home field advantage. We can't get that until we play Detroit Friday," Milwaukee head coach Michael Moynihan said. "We need to beat Detroit to get home field advantage. That has been our goal all season--hosting the league tournament."

In the 94th minute, Teegarden beat several Butler defenders to the middle of the field before launching a shot from 20 yards out. Her shot hit the bottom of the cross bar and came down on the end line before trickling into the goal.

This was Milwaukee's second-straight overtime game and third in four games. The Panthers remained unbeaten in extra time, moving to 3-0-1 on the year.

"Anytime you have success in overtime, it builds confidence," Moynihan said. "It's a maturing process, playing through overtime, and I like where we are at. In the end, we've managed to get the goals we've needed and win those games."

UWM controlled the pace of the game, holding a dominant 30-3 advantage in shots and 10-2 edge in corner kicks. In the second half, the Panthers outshot Butler 15-1 as they pushed for the game-winning score.

"We had a little lapse in the beginning of the second half. We lost a little bit of rhythm," Moynihan said. "Other than that I was pleased with everything but our final third. We were pretty dominating early on. But, if we finishes those early chances, we won't get ourselves into these situations. The longer teams can stay tied with us, the more fight they get."

Milwaukee almost broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute on a rocket shot from sophomore Beth Steuer. She launched a shot just inside the 18-yard box through a defenders' legs on goal, but Butler keeper Kirby Zwickel was able to punch it over the cross bar with a leaping save.

Senior Elicia Scaife brought the Engelmann Field crowd to their feet in the 86th minute when she had a shot from eight yards out deflected into the side of the net. Teegarden had stolen the ball in the midfield and threaded a through ball to the streaking Scaife.

Sophomore Erin Kane needed to make just one save for her 10th shutout of the season and the 23rd of her career. It was also UWM's school record-tying 13th clean sheet of the season (2001 and 2005).

Zwickel made seven saves for the Bulldogs, while the defense added a team save.

Milwaukee returns to action Friday against Detroit at Engelmann Field. The Titans are the only league team that can tie the Panthers in the league standings, as they are the only one-loss, no-tie team left. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
