GREEN BAY, Wis. -
Despite hanging tough in numerous matches and claiming a win at #2 doubles, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee dropped a 7-0 decision to UW-Green Bay Wednesday night in Horizon League women's tennis action.
The tandem of Erin Felber and Traci Litscher did grab an 8-5 win at #2 doubles. That nearly helped the Panthers get the doubles point and two singles matches went to three sets but UWM wound up on the short end.
Tammie Spiel and Margie Van Lieshout fell, 9-7, in #1 doubles, while each also went to three sets in their singles matches. Spiel fell to Amber Murdoch of Green Bay, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, while Van Lieshout dropped a tough 6-7, 6-0, 6-3 decision to Heather Harding.
"The match really was much closer than the score indicates," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "We had a chance to win the doubles point and had a chance to win those two singles matches, and that would have provided us with a great spark."
UWM heads toward the home stretch of the regular season, playing matches at Oakland, Toledo and Detroit next weekend. The league championships are then April 23 and 24 in Indianapolis.
