MILWAUKEE, Wis. -
Freshman Traci Litscher won No. 3 singles, but it was not enough as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a league match, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at Moorland Park. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 0-11 and 0-5 in the Horizon League, while the Penguins improved to 2-7 and 1-0 in league action.
"Youngstown State is a tough team," head coach Matt McCaskill said. "I see them finishing among the top three in the Horizon League."
Litscher picked up her second-straight win, this time against YSU's Heather Hagood. Litscher won the first set 6-3, before falling in the second, 6-1. The Eau Claire, Wis. native then won the tiebreaker, 13-11.
"It was a huge win for Traci at No. 3 (singles)," McCaskill said. "She beat a very good player who has played as high as No. 1 for Youngstown."
The match also marked the final home match for seniors Tammie Spiel and Erin Felber. Spiel fell at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Felber competed at No. 5 singles, losing 6-0, 6-0.
Milwaukee returns to action on Wednesday, when it travels to league and in-state foe UW-Green Bay. The Panthers and Phoenix square off at 6 p.m. in Green Bay, Wis.
