INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 2, 2005) - Sophomore Pam Shipway scored in the 51st minute to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Butler, Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis. Freshman Erin Kane stopped four shots for the shutout, as the Panthers moved to 3-0 in league play, and 6-4-2 overall.

Shipway's goal, which was her second of the weekend, came on a play started by senior Kitty Montgomery in the midfield. Montgomery sent a ball across the field to junior Brenda Neigbauer, who beat her defender with a cut inside. Neigbauer then sent a cross far post, where Shipway headed in the game-winner at the 50:15 mark.

"Neibs crossed it and I was there to head it in," Shipway said. "It was something we worked on in practice, so I knew what to do. I was in the right spots at the right times this weekend. It was just doing what we had worked on during the week."

Milwaukee came out early and established itself in the match, outshooting the host Bulldogs, 10-3, in the first half and forcing the game's only two corner kicks. Butler's best chance resulted from a long ball that was flicked past the Panther defense. Sophomore Ginny Graczyk recovered and was able to tackle the ball away from the BU forward.

"From the beginning we were able to establish ourselves as the dominant team," head coach Michael Moynihan said. "Butler is typically good at possessing the ball and we were able to do a good job of disrupting that. I think we were able to do a good job of possessing the bal ourselves."

For the match, the Panthers outshot Butler, 18-7, and finished with a pair of corner kicks. Milwaukee was also whistled for 15 fouls, compared to 14 by BU, including a yellow card in the final minute.

After not facing a shot Friday, Kane stopped all four shots she faced for her third-straight shutout. Annalise Larkin started the match in goal for Butler, but was relieved in the 30th minute after colliding with a UWM player. Larkin finished with four saves in just over 29 minutes of action, while her sub Kirby Zwickel also made two stops.

"We played two conference teams this weekend and got two shutouts, which is big," Graczyk said. "Our defenders were well organized and kept them from getting to our goalie."

The Panthers return to action next Sunday, when Wright State visits Engelmann Field for another league match. Kick off is scheduled for noon.
