UWM Season Ends At Conference Tournament

April 24, 2004

Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team ended its season as they were beaten in two rounds of action today at the Horizon League tournament. The Panthers were met by first seeded UIC in the first round, a match up that ended in a without a Panther point. In the consolation bracket, the Panthers played Wright State, with senior Cassie Kuranz claiming the only win.

"We played real well in the first round against UIC," head coach Erika Wentz said. "We didn't play as well in the second match, probably because of fatigue."

In tournament play, the team that wins the first four matches advances to the next level. In the first match against UIC, Panther Margie Van Lieshout was winning the second set, 3-2 after the match was called due to the four Flame victories.

"Margie was playing really well, "Wentz said. "Its just too bad that she couldn't finish the match out due to the rules."

In the second match against Wright State, senior Cassie Kuranz ended her Panther career on a positive note, with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the #5 slot. Kuranz ends the year with a team best eight wins.

UWM junior Megan Brown has been named to the Horizon League All-Academic team.
