UWM Falls Just Short To Bradley

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team dropped a close, 4-3 decision to Bradley University Saturday afternoon. The Panthers jump-started the match with two doubles victories, giving UWM one team point. However in the dual, which featured three, three set matches, UWM's Kristen Bauknecht and Cassie Kuranz were the only Panthers to come away victorious in singles play.

In what is becoming almost a weekly staple, the #2 doubles team of Tammie Spiel and Megan Brown continued their impressive play. The duo pulled out an 8-4 victory over the team of Wood/Cain. In #3 doubles action, Kristen Bauknecht and Melissa Hackett continued their steady play by downing the tandem of Bianchi/Robertson, 8-6.

The Panthers came out strong against a Bradley team, which brought a 6-1 record coming in to today's action. "They played really well," head coach Erika Wentz said. "After playing a good match like today, our confidence is starting to roll."

In singles action, senior Cassie Kuranz continued here impressive play downing Tori Robertson in a close three set match, 2-6, 6-3 and 7-5 at the #4 spot. Freshman Kristen Bauknecht played in the #6 slot, beating Marissa Bianchi, 6-3, 6-4.

"We're getting better with each week," Wentz said. "Hopefully we can keep it going into next weekends matches."

The Panthers return to action next week as they travel to Indiana to face Ball State and IUPUI.
