Sept. 20, 2003

Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Three Panthers reached double-figures in kills but it wasn't enough as Colorado State collected a 30-21, 29-31, 30-25, 30-20 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Saturday morning at the Diet Coke Classic.

The Rams (8-4), who have been receiving votes in the national poll and have qualified for the last eight NCAA Tournaments, hit .281 for the match, including .364 in the decisive fourth game. UWM (10-2) hit just .187 in the match.

Sarah Potts led UWM with 19 kills and 14 digs while Karen Fruit added 10 kills and 18 digs. Larissa Cattanach also collected 10 kills and five blocks for the Panthers.

UWM trailed most of game one but then bounced back in game two. They led by as many as four points most of the way and, after Colorado State rallied to grab a 29-28 edge, the Panthers rebounded. A Potts kill tied the score at 29 and a block by Cheryl Hegemann and Sarah Moore gave the Panthers a 30-29 edge. UWM then closed out the game on a Ram error.

Colorado State then survived a tense third game, which included seven lead changes and 17 ties, before dominating the fourth game.

UWM finishes play in the tournament Saturday night, taking on the hosts from Minnesota at approximately 7:30 p.m.
